Late rushing TD secures win for Falcons, 20-16

Coming off a bye week, the football team improved to 2-1 in Region 8-AAAAA last Friday with a 20-16 win over South Gwinnett. Quarterback Hunter Watts had 112 yards rushing, 131 passing, and two touchdowns, including a 3-yard run with less than a minute remaining to give the Falcons (2-3) the win. The Falcons play Parkview (4-2) this Friday. The two Gwinnett County powers have not played since a 21-3 Parkview victory in 2003. … The softball team defeated South Gwinnett 7-0 on Sept. 25 thanks to four shutout innings from starting pitcher Allie Miles. … The volleyball team went 3-0 in the Gwinnett County Tournament on Sept. 25 defeating Buford, Duluth, and Brookwood. Sara Beth White had 20 kills. Last Wednesday, the girls beat Berkmar and Meadowcreek at home. White had nine kills and four aces. … The boys cross country team finished fourth in the Alexander Invitational last Saturday. Mike McClay led all runners with a time of 15:36. The girls finished ninth in the Alexander Invitational. Nina Kamber led with a time of 20:53.
