KIPP Atlanta is having a breakout season as the Warriors moved to 14-5 over the weekend.
With the 96-67 victory against Washington on Saturday, the Warriors’ season is now tied for the second-most wins in school history and is only four away from tying the school record.
The team’s success is even more surprising considering they are coming off a 7-18 season last year and a second to last finish in the region. The 2024-25 season got off to a rough start for KIPP, with the team losing its first two games by a total of two points. Since then, they have been dominant, losing only three games, two of which were to the top-ranked team in A-3A Private Holy Innocents, one of those losses being by only one point.
The victories have catapulted the Warriors up to the number three-ranked team in 2A. The team’s anchor has been senior forward Chane Bynum. Standing at 6-foot-10, he is the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 17 points per game along with 11.5 rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. He has also been shooting exceptionally well, hitting 53 percent of his field goals and 41 percent of his three-point attempts. In the backcourt, the pair of Quadarious Clemons and Jayvon Johnson are both averaging more than 14 points per game.
The offense has run through Johnson this season, with the senior guard accumulating 5.3 assists per game. He has also been extremely active on the defensive side of the ball, averaging more than two steals per game. The Warriors’ path to the school win record is wide open. They have five regular-season games left, along with the region tournament and most likely the playoffs. Of the remaining five games in the regular season, four are against teams KIPP has already beaten. The Warriors have won those games by an average of 25.5 points. The only game against a team they haven’t played will be against Drew Charter, which has a record of 9-10 and has lost seven of its last 10 games. If KIPP does make the playoffs, they will have another chance to make school history as the Warriors look for the first playoff win in school history in only their third playoff appearance.
