Kennesaw Mtn. too much for Kemper’s Greyhounds in opener

Head coach Matt Kemper hopes to bring a winning atmosphere to the Pope football program. The Greyhounds looked to start that trend when they traveled up I-75 to take on Kennesaw Mountain. Both teams fought hard in the first half, as it ended in a 14-14 tie. But the Mustangs’ Wing-T offense proved to be too much for the Greyhounds in the second half, as Pope ended up losing 38-21. There were plenty of positives to take away from the game, as quarterback Steve Wilkerson threw for 109 yards and one touchdown. The running game was also strong, totaling 193 yards on the day. The Greyhounds will take on Lassiter on Friday night in their first home game of the year. … The volleyball team currently has a record of 12-2, winning their first 10 matches of the year. Pope will take on Wesleyan and Woodward Academy on Thursday and will then take part in the Lovett Block Party this weekend. … The softball team defeated Walton on Friday by the score of 4-2. The Greyhounds are 2-0 in the region and will look to make it region win No. 3 against Roswell on Thursday.
