John earns freshman conference honors

Ga State Freshman golfer Allen John has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year.

John put together an impressive resume during his first collegiate season at Georgia State, placing higher than any CAA golfer in both scoring average (72.38) and national ranking (90th).

John finished as the medalist at the 2009 CAA Championship by posting 70-65-76—211 (-5), leading the Panthers to a tie for first in the team competition.

During his rookie campaign, John posted finishes of first, third, fourth, and seventh. John shot a career-low 65 twice, at the CAA Championship and Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, as well as rounds of 66 and 67.

The Mannheim, Germany native was the lone freshman to receive All-CAA First Team honors, and was named CAA Golfer of the Week twice in 2008-09. He is the second Panther ever to receive the rookie of the year honor (Mark Haastrup, 2006).
