Johanna Sasser looking to help Buford to a fifth straight state title

Buford’s Johanna Sasser is looking to help lead the Wolves to their fourth straight state championship. Buford has won six of the past ten championships, cementing its status as a dominant program.

Sasser finished fourth in the all-around competition at last year’s state championship, also placing fourth on the floor and sixth on the vault. Despite battling food poisoning during last year’s championship meet, she played a crucial role in helping the Wolves secure the state title.

Buford also returns Bellarae Newby, who finished eighth overall at the state meet. Newby placed eighth on the beam and third-place finish on the floor. Together, Sasser and Newby form a dynamic duo that provides a strong foundation for the Wolves’ success. However, Buford will need to develop additional high-level competitors if they hope to capture their fifth consecutive state championship.

The Wolves will face stiff competition from elite programs in Forsyth County, including North Forsyth and West Forsyth, which finished second and third, respectively, at last year’s championship.
