Several more Class 6A head coaching vacancies have been filled in the past week, including Parkview with Adam Clack and Alpharetta with Brian Landis. The other major hire happened at South Forsyth as the War Eagles went to the college ranks to name James Thomson as new head coach and bring the Florida-native back to Georgia. Coach Thomson was a Georgia head coach previously at Tucker in 2021 and Northview from 2017 to 2020. Thomson left Tucker to become head coach at Winter Haven in Florida for the 2022 season. He’s also a former head coach in Florida at Gainesville (2011-12) and DeLand (2013-14). South Forsyth is a Class 6A school.
The War Eagles were 17-25 in four seasons under Troy Morris and 2-8 in 2024. Additionally, South Forsyth was just 3-17 over the last two seasons—producing the fewest wins in a two-year stretch in the school’s 36-year history.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Thomson to South Forsyth High School,” said SFHS Principal Pam Bibik. “His proven track record of success, his ability to develop student-athletes, and his passion for the game make him the ideal leader for our program. We believe he will make an immediate and lasting impact on our students, our team, and our community.”
