Jaguars ready for early-season test at Ware Co. on Friday

After coming off a bye this past week, the football team will make the long trip to Waycross on Friday, as they face Class 4A’s Ware County . The matchup was billed as a big one in the beginning of the season, but Ware County has stumbled out of the gate, compiling a 1-2 record. Conversely, the Jaguars (2-0) have been impressive, outscoring their opponents 64-0. Stephenson’s defense only allowed 142 yards per game in the two shutouts they pitched. Expect the Gators to try everything to right their ship as they will want to be clicking when they get into the teeth of their region schedule. Stephenson should be up to the challenge after having an extra week to prepare. … Taylor Thomas had the third best time of the day for the girls in Week 2’s DeKalb County cross country meet with a time of 25:01.96. Three of her teammates, Jillian Thomas, Latasvia Fowler and Kenisha Ladler, all finished in the top three of their race. For the boys, Chris Ballou finished 14th in his race.
