Jags to face M.L. King in big-time region matchup

After suffering a 21-14 loss to Luella a week earlier, the football team got back to its winning ways with 48-0 victory over Redan last Friday. The Jaguar defense was outstanding, returning three Redan interceptions for scores. ”After the loss we just wanted to get to the next game and take it all out on the next team,” said Stephenson linebacker Nigel Mitchell-Thornton. Mitchell-Thornton, along with Joshua Polk and Tyrone Cornelius, had the team’s defensive scores. Also, running back Raymond Sanders added two touchdowns, and Kerry Hartley, Jared Pollard and Denzell Hartley also had touchdown runs. The Jaguars (5-1, 2-1) move on to face rival M.L. King, who is undefeated in Region 2-AAAAA play at 3-0. “It’s a big game,” said Stephenson head coach Ron Gartrell. “It’s not a do or die game, but it will sure mean a lot to win it.” … The girls team finished second and the boys came in third in their respective Week 6 DeKalb County cross country races. Taylor Thomas once again led the girls team with a third-place finish and Daren Lewis (24th), Ja’Metreus Hamilton (25th) and Matthew Williams (26th) led the boys.
