Jags dominate Ware County, prepare to host Newton

The football team made the trip deep into South Georgia and allowed their first points of the season. Nevertheless, they came back to Stone Mountain with a 34-14 victory over Ware County. The win moved the Jaguars to a perfect 3-0 on the season. The win was also the 100th at Stephenson for head coach Ron Gartrell. Next, Gartrell’s Jaguars will begin the Region 2-AAAAA portion of their schedule when they take on Newton at Hallford Stadium. Newton comes into the game with a 1-2 record. … Taylor Thomas, Jillian Thomas, Latasvia Fowler, Tiffany Winter and Chika Nwokedi finished in the top 17 and helped the girls cross county team finish second in their Week 3 DeKalb County race. Taylor Thomas placed ninth with a time of 27:06.00. Only the Lady Jaguars and Chamblee (the winning team) had full squads for the race. … Chris Ballou led the boys team in their Week 3 DeKalb County race as he finished 23rd with a time of 21:04.93. Henry Lewis was the next Jaguar to finish as he came in 34th.
