‘Horns top Wolverines in Week 1 thriller

The football team knew they would have its hands full when it took on Woodstock. The Longhorns had no idea, however, that the game would be as thrilling and as close as it was. The Longhorns were down by four late in the game and it looked as if the game was out of reach when a Wolverine fourth-down conversion from the Longhorn 8-yard line would have sealed the deal. But the defense was able to come up with the stop before the offense drove 97 yards and put the game away with an Austin Petrik 12-yard touchdown pass to Brian Randolph, giving Kell the 13-10 win. They will try to make it two in a row on Friday as they travel to Walton. … The softball team is off to a good start and had a 5-4 record at press time. They have one region win and will look for their second on Thursday against Wheeler. … The volleyball team is hot right now as well, having lost only two of 13 matches at press time. They will look to continue their hot streak when they face Lakeside on Thursday.
