Entering the homestretch of the regular season, the Shiloh Generals have indeed put themselves in a position to bring home a Class AAAAA state championship. The team has been on a roll as of late, winning seven of its last eight, with a one-point loss to Berkmar being the team’s only blemish in 2012 thus far. Expectations for the Generals are high and the team will have to rely heavily on its two high-profile big men, Robert Carter Jr. and Trayvon Reed. These two have created matchup problems all season long for opponents due to their towering stature and have put the team amongst the state’s elite.
Carter, the highly-touted senior, has already signed a letter of intent with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to play for new head coach Brian Gregory. The 6-foot-9 power forward has not only been the team’s scoring catalyst, but also a tremendous force on the boards. Carter hopes to end his Shiloh career by adding a state title to his accolades.
Lining up next to Carter is Reed, a second-year center who stands close to seven-feet tall and has the potential to grow even taller. Although only a sophomore, Reed has already received a great deal of national attention from several major programs throughout the South, including Georgia Tech, Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Florida and Florida State.
With national attention surrounding Shiloh’s two towers, Carter and Reed both must maintain a team-first mentality in order to help reach the ultimate goal of a state title. Even though the Generals have been rolling as of late, potential postseason showdowns with powerhouses such as Milton and Wheeler loom ahead and could derail Shiloh’s title hopes.
For Shiloh to take that next step and reach championship glory, Carter and Reed will also need help from senior guards Jordan Gaither and C.J. Keyes, who have also complemented each other well just as the two aforementioned big men have. With a talented backcourt to go along with the dominant frontcourt, Shiloh’s ceiling has never been higher.
