Carver (Ala.) 48, North Cobb 38: Carver senior wing Jeremy Johnson, who is committed to play football at Auburn next year, scored all 16 of his points in the second half to help his team overcome a 22-15 halftime deficit in the opening game at Norcross.

North Cobb led 30-29 going into the fourth, but a solid defensive effort by Carver stymied the Warriors, whose top two point guards, Saxon Steele and Dennis Young-Coleman, were both out injured. It was the first game Young-Coleman has missed this season.

Senior center Jordan Neff led North Cobb with 12 points, while senior forward Lee Moore had 11. Junior forward Demetrius Houston had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Carver.

Miller Grove 104, Memphis-East (Tenn.) 56: Kyre’ Hamer made 16 of 19 shots and scored a career-high 40 points to lead the Wolverines in a rout of Memphis-East in the second game of the day at Norcross. Miller Grove dominated the entire game, and led 27-11 after one period and 51-25 at the half. The Wolverines had 89 points on the board after three quarters.

In addition to Hamer’s scoring outburst, junior guard Keith Pinkney had 22, freshman point guard Alterique Gibson had 17 and senior guard Earl Bryant had 10. Hamer, a senior shooting guard, scored 37 in the first three quarters of play.

Greater Atlanta Christian 81, M.L. King 48: In the only battle between two Georgia programs in the Hilton Invitational, the Spartans rolled to an easy win behind senior guard Collin Swinton’s 19 points. M.L. King was a late replacement team for Olympic (N.C.), which backed out of the trip on Friday.

Greater Atlanta Christian jumped out to a 17-6 lead after one period, as Swinton scored eight of the Spartans’ points. GAC expanded its lead to 42-17 at the half, with Swinton accounting for 17 of them.

M.L. King was led by senior wing Abiodune Short’s 13 points. Junior forward Isaiah Wilkins had 16 points and seven blocks for GAC.

Eagle’s Landing 67, Flora McDonald Academy (N.C.) 55: Eagle’s Landing broke open a 2-point lead with five minutes left to win convincingly. The Golden Eagles were led by senior guards Isaiah Dennis and Eric Wortham (a Middle Tennessee State signee), who each had 19 points.

Dennis scored six points in the first quarter as Eagle’s Landing led 18-15. Flora McDonald, however, stayed close at the half and trailed just 29-28 as Jared Scott poured in 11. Dennis also had 11 at the half.

Norcross 68, DeMatha (Md.) 67: The hosts led throughout and staved off a late charge by DeMatha. A 51-35 lead at the end of three melted away as DeMatha senior point guard Jarius Lyles, a Virginia Commonwealth commitment, scored 21 in the final period to make things interesting.

Lyles finished with a game-high 36 points while senior guard Brandon Goodwin led Norcross with 21. At the half, Norcross held a 31-25 lead as Goodwin and Lyles each had 11 points.

Christ School (N.C.) 60, Wheeler 52: Wheeler led 28-25 at the half, but Christ School rode a 16-10 edge in the third quarter to gain a lead it would not relinquish.

The Greenies expanded their lead to 46-38 with five minutes left in the game, but Wheeler’s Trevin Steede hit two consecutive 3-pointers to bring the Wildcats to within two. Christ School ended the game on a 14-8 run.
