HEADED WEST: Lassiter’s Printz commits to UCLA

Since leaving the Atlanta Falcons Jim Mora Jr., roamed the sidelines in Seattle for one season and last year served as a commentator on FOX before becoming the brand new coach of UCLA. Some questioned how he would fare in the crazy world of recruiting. In his first few weeks on the job he has secured two Peach State prospects that could help the Bruins compete with the USC Trojans and both have Lassiter ties. Mora snagged safety Kene Orjioke and Monday picked up the pledge of former SMU pledge Eddie Printz. The rising senior led the Lassiter Trojans to a series of upsets en route to a 10-4 season with an appearance in the semifinals.

Printz made the very first Score Atlanta 24 2Look4 list and is sure to be featured on the 2012 Score 44 list after appearing in the Georgia Junior Bowl. Score’s efforts to reach Printz Monday night were unsuccessful, but Printz did tell the ESPN.com recruiting blog, “I’m a Bruin and very excited to have this decision out of the way early.”

Printz previously committed to another former Falcons coach June Jones of SMU, but after Jones flirted with Arizona State of the Pac 12, Printz reopened his recruiting process. Printz’s father Eddie Printz Sr., told 247Sports.com of ULCA’s decision to offer the junior signal-caller, “He’s basically going to be the first quarterback they bring in and he can put his signature on the program. He really has a chance to make a name for himself.” Printz did tell 247Sports’ Barton Simmons that UCLA will likely bring another quarterback in with the 2013 class.

Last season Printz passed for 3350 yards in 14 games, averaging 239 yards per game while completing 63 percent of his passes (277-442). He amassed 28 touchdowns to just nine interceptions, and he accounted for seven scores in the postseason (six passing, one rushing).

Printz will graduate early and enroll at UCLA in time for 2013 spring practice.
