Hawks create big plays on offense and special teams

Stout defensive play helped the football team kick off the season at home last Friday with a 23-15 win over Dacula. Running back Ramael Wilson led the offense with 68 rushing yards and one touchdown. Chris Boggs scored a special teams touchdown off a botched punt. Brian Heinze kicked a 24-yard field goal and then quarterback Ed Russ connected with Casey Windom for a 28-yard touchdown to cap off the scoring. The Hawks (1-0) will travel to Central Gwinnett this Friday at 7:30 p.m. … The softball team improved to 3-1 with a shutout of Northview 4-0 last Thursday. Morgan Bullock pitched a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts. Bullock also starred at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases. On Wednesday, the Hawks will host Dacula. … Brittany Westmoreland led the girls cross country team to a 34-25 win over Marist with an individual time of 21:23 last Thursday. The team will next take part in the Berry Invitational on Saturday. … The volleyball team was off last week but will return to action in the Cobb/Gwinnett Challenge on Saturday.
