Led by senior forward Cameron Shaw, the Harrison Hoyas are looking to make a run at their third state title while trying to overcome some of the best teams in the state. However, it’s been since 2017 that the team took home the trophy.
Harrison is one of the titans of GHSA girls’ soccer — winning titles in 2011, 2014 and 2017 — and have reached the quarterfinals or better every season since 2018. Their three titles — two at the state’s highest classification – are tied for the most of any school ranked in 6A.
They are led by the dominant presence of senior forward Cameron Shaw. With 25 goals on the season, Shaw has been an unstoppable force. That number is even more impressive considering she started the season with five games of scoring one goal or fewer. While that pace was solid, it pales in comparison to her recent form, over the past eight games, she has scored three or more goals in six of them.
In addition to Shaw, Harrison boasts three other double-digit goal scorers. Sarah Houston is the team’s second-leading scorer with 13 goals, and like Shaw, her scoring has surged as the season has progressed. Tied for third on the team are junior Sydney Snow and sophomore Maliah Mourkarzel, who have each netted 12 goals. With four reliable scorers, the Hoyas can spread the offensive burden, keeping defenses on edge and preventing opponents from keying in on just one player.
The Hoyas have built an impressive resume with several marquee wins, and their two losses are as respectable as they come. Harrison has defeated top-tier teams like Campbell, Walton, and Marist. Their only losses have come against 6A No. 1 and nationally ranked West Forsyth and 5A No. 1 and nationally ranked Roswell. Those two losses were by a combined five goals, giving them as good a chance as anyone at winning a potential playoff rematch with West Forsyth.
