Georgia rode hot shooting and the dynamic legs of Travis Leslie to a first half lead of 42-27 over the No. 8 Tennessee Vols. Trey Thompkins poured in 14 for the Dawgs while Leslie added eight, two of which came on one of his trademark dunks.
Georgia jumped out on top 10-4 when Thompkins and McPhee each hit threes in the first four minutes of the game.
Then, Leslie brought brought the house down. The sophomore sensation stole a Tennessee pass and performed an amazing double-pump reverse slam that is sure to be featured on SportsCenter tonight.
Following a dunk by Price, the Dawgs led 14-4.
From there, Georgia controlled the first half action and led much of the time by double digits. UGA held the lead due to hot shooting and solid defense.
Tennessee, meanwhile, had trouble scoring even the easiest baskets. The Vols seemed to look for the back-door alley-oop often in the first half, but only converted one of them. At one point, Scotty Hopson bumped into a teammate in midair while going after an alley oop pass. Hopson could not convert and ended up yelling at his teammate while the Dawgs ran down the floor with the ball.
The lead expanded to as much as 20 when Thompkins slammed to make it 40-20 at the 1:30 mark.
The Dawgs shot 60% at the half to Tennessee’s 39.3 % and also out-rebounded the Vols 18-8.
