Georgia looks like it has showed up for tonight’s game, which is the final home game for many Bulldog players. The Dawgs have gained over 200 yards in the first half and lead Kentucky 20-6.
Joe Cox has been on fire, throwing for two touchdowns passes and not flirting with any interceptions. Cox engineered scoring drives of 85, 61, 76 and 30 yards in the first half. The fifth-year senior looks like he has mastered the medium deep ball down the sideline. After hitting three of them against Auburn last week, Cox hit Tavarres King tonight for 34 yards during Georgia’s second touchdown drive.
Orson Charles is apparently now a major part of the Bulldog offense. Charles caught four passes in the first half including a 20-yard touchdown. The Tampa native looks like he will be the next great tight end in a long line of them at UGA.
Speaking of freshmen from Florida, Rantavious Wooten caught his first career touchdown tonight. Wooten has played a more and more significant role for the team as the year has progressed. Wooten is eighth on the team in receiving and is one of nine Bulldogs to have caught a touchdown.
Georgia’s defense has come to play as well. The Dawgs have limited UK to no points in the second quarter and very little offense at all after their lone scoring drive.
Despite Randall Cobb playing through a shoulder injury, the Cats have not been able to do much on offense after their touchdown drive.
Kentucky scored on their second possession after a punt was returned to Georgia’s 48 by Randall Cobb. It took the Cats just four plays from there, as a Bryan Evans personal foul gave the Cats an extra 15 yards. On third and six from the Bulldog 20, quarterback Morgan Newton hit Derrick Locke for a 20 yard touchdown over the middle. The Cats missed the point after due to a bad snap.
Georgia answered UK’s score with a 12 play 76-yard drive that culminated with a Blair Walsh 21-yard field goal. On the drive, Orson Charles caught three passes for 53 yards.
After a Jeff Owens sack, the Dawgs took over on their 39. Branden Smith rushed for 31 yards to open the second quarter to key the Georgia scoring drive. On third and 10 from the UK 21, Cox hit Rantavious Wooten for a touchdown to give the Dawgs their first lead.
The penalties, however, have persisted for the Dawgs as Bryan Evans and Chris Davis each got hit with personal foul penalties. Georgia also had a long run by Ealey called back due to clipping.
