Halftime blog: Birds dominate first half in Oakland

Yesterday, I wrote that the Falcons should dominate this game. Mission accomplished. They currently hold a massive 24-0 lead on the road in Oakland after one of the most dominant halves from any team all season long.

The stats tell the story. The Falcons outgained Oakland 309 to -2 and averaged a gain of 6.7 yards per play. They also have a whopping 20 first downs to the Raiders’ zero. Michael Koenen is yet to punt the football, and if not for Matt Ryan fumbling deep in Oakland territory late in the half, the lead could be even larger.

Ryan is 13-of-16 for 184 yards and two touchdown passes. Both of those passes went to Michael Jenkins on scores of 27 and 37 yards. John Abraham has been dominant from his defensive end position, notching three sacks and a forced fumble in the first half of play.
