Greg Vandagriff makes multiple big announcements about his future

Prince Avenue Christian has had an eventful few days. The Wolverines shocked the community by announcing they had parted ways with longtime, three-time champion head coach Greg Vandagriff Monday, following nine successful seasons with the program.

They immediately promoted offensive coordinator Jon Richt, son of legendary Georgia head coach Mark Richt, to the head coaching role.

Jon Richt has served as the Wolverines’ offensive coordinator for the past five seasons, helping lead the team to three championships and two additional finals appearances. He has become known as a quarterback whisperer, coaching standout quarterbacks such as Brock Vandagriff and Aaron Philo. While he had been considered a candidate for several high-profile coaching positions, he didn’t have to leave Prince Avenue Christian to land his first head coaching opportunity.

For Vandagriff, the past few days have been even more eventful. He was hired at Tennessee’s Lakeway Christian Academy Wednesday. And, after leaving the Prince Ave., he announced that he had fulfilled a lifelong dream by writing a book, not about football strategy like most coaches write, but a deeply personal story.

“I have had a lifelong desire to write a book, and here it is,” Vandagriff shared in a post on X. “The book is about growing up without a positive “father” role model, yet wanting to be one for my children, and my struggle to figure it out.”

The 126-page book was published on February 6 and is currently available on Amazon.

The several day transition from coach-to-author-back-to-coach and his accepting of the head coaching position at Lakeway in White Pine, Tennessee, a small town about 40 miles east of Knoxville, will lead Vandagriff out of state and into the Tennessee hill country. The school has around 400 students and its football program is relatively new, having played just five seasons. Its best season so far was a 5-5 campaign in 2023, but the Lions struggled last year, finishing 1-9 and especially faltering on defense.
