Greenbrier Using Stout Defense & Explosive Offensive For 7-1 Start

The Lady Wolfpack has been excellent over the past two seasons posting just two losses and are 35-2 during that span. In 2022-2023, they made it to the state championship before losing to eventual champion Chamblee. Last year, Greenbrier made it to the semifinals before losing to Cambridge. They are a team that has been knocking on the door and is close to reaching their first state championship in program history.

The Lady Wolfpack is off to another good start and are 7-1 in their first eight games of the season. Greenbrier is also 3-0 in region play thus far. The defense for Greenbrier has been spectacular this season. Through eight games, Greenbrier has produced five shutouts so far against Harlem, Statesboro, Lakeside-Evans, Evans, and Effingham County. What has been most impressive is three of those shutouts have come in the last three outings. Goalkeepers Rilye Riggins and AnaLaura Altamira-Boone have done a superb job of preventing goals this season. The backline defense of Greenbrier also has done a good job of protecting and making it difficult to penetrate their formation.

The Heckathorn sisters (Natalie and Madelyn) have been key catalysts this season for Greenbrier on the offensive ends combining for 27 goals and four assists. Natalie has a shot-to-goal percentage of 56% this year converting 14 of her 25 shots into goals and her sister Madelyn has a shot-to-goal ratio of 59% this year converting 13 of her 22 shots. Mackenzie Canady leads the team with four assists.

They have already picked up top wins over North Atlanta and Harlem this season; both teams are ranked in the Score Atlanta poll. The Lady Wolfpack is rated as high as No. 5 in the recent Week 4 poll that came out on Monday. Greenbrier is ranked No. 15 nationally according to MaxPreps, behind Roswell, Walton, Brook, Lambert, and Harrison. They have a stout test coming up this Saturday against McIntosh which will be another litmus test to see where they are currently. Greenbrier will look to win it all this year after previous years of falling just short. This could be the year they finally get over the hump.
