Greater Atlanta Christian has already clinched the regular season region championship and won the earlier matchup this season on the road by four points against Kell. The Spartans can return the favor and sweep Kell after they did the same to them last year. The teams meet at 6 p.m. Friday to find out.
Both programs have been impressive throughout the years and title contenders with GAC winning a title in 2020, and Kell winning its first last year in one of their most impressive seasons in school history.
The Longhorns have won three of their last five games. The Lady Spartans have won six of their last seven games and are streaking. In their region championship-clinching win against Northview, Cobi Obi finished with a double-double scoring ten points and grabbing ten rebounds. Sydney Lucas added 11 points and was a perfect three for three from beyond the arc. Head coach Jessica Guarneri has GAC playing their best basketball at the right time.
Senior guard Myla Benton is averaging 16.4 points and six rebounds per game. Benton has six games this season where she has scored 20 points in a game. Her best game came against Athens Academy where she dropped a double-double and finished the game with 27 points and 11 rebounds.

For the Longhorns, freshman Asiah Thompson had multiple games in January where she led the team in scoring and continues to take big steps forward. Aiya Dudley caught fire in last Tuesday’s win against Chattahoochee scoring 17 points and knocking down five threes.
Kell also has Kennedy Deese and McKenzie Green.
Both are very capable scorers and are getting valuable minutes this season. They have continued to impress with the opportunities put in front of them and have flourished under coach Kandra Bailey. The future is bright for the Longhorns because a good amount of their leading scorers and contributors are freshmen and sophomores.
Another impressive player this season for the Spartans has been sophomore point guard Asia Johnson who is averaging 13.4 points per game. What is most impressive is her defensive play this season for the Spartans. She is averaging 3.4 steals per game and has 12 games this season where she has recorded three steals or more in a game.
Friday marks the final regular season game for both teams before the region tournament starts next week and seeds become finalized.
