Grayson girls basketball star, Danielle Carnegie, named Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year

Grayson High School girls basketball star, Danielle Carnegie, has been awarded the 2023-24 Gatorade Georgia Girls Basketball Player of the Year for her outstanding play, leading the Lady Rams to an undefeated 32-0 record.

It was a year of firsts for the Lady Rams as they won their first state championship in program history, had their first undefeated season in program history and now Carnegie becomes the first player from Grayson to be awarded Gatorade Georgia Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

The senior guard averaged 21 points, nine rebounds, around five assists and close to four steals a game in Grayson’s undefeated season.

Scoring 21 points and bringing down eight rebounds in the Class 7A state championship, Carnegie played a major role in the Lady Rams season and in their 65-44 victory in the Class 7A girls state championship.

Carnegie has been sensational during her high school basketball career at Grayson as she has been named a three-time Regional Player of the Year while she was also named the Class 6A Player of the Year in 2022 before Grayson went up to 7A.

She is ranked as the No. 47 player in the nation in the 2024 recruiting class by Prospects Nation and has signed to continue her athletic and academic career to stay home at Georgia Tech.

Off the court, Carnegie has been a tremendous help around her community. The future Yellow Jacket volunteers in numerous areas as she is a local youth basketball coach and has a role in putting on Grayson’s prom for Special Education students at the high school.

Though Carnegie is a great asset to the Lady Rams on the court, she excels in the classroom as well having a 3.79 GPA during her high school career.

Though the Carnegie and the Lady Rams were crowned champions last weekend, their season isn’t quite finished as they are one of six teams that will be competing in the “Chipotle Nationals” national high school basketball tournament. The tournament features six of the top-15 girls high school basketball teams in the country, including the Lady Rams. Grayson will be the two-seed and will face the winner of three-seeded IMG Academy (FL) and six-seeded Grace Christian (NC). The tournament will be held at Brownsburg High School in Indianapolis.
