Gooch fills in admirably but Raiders fall to Stephenson

The football team is still in search of its first win of the season after falling to Stephenson 48-0 last Friday. Despite the loss, running back Justin Sims showcased hard running, breaking off a couple of long runs against the Jaguars. The Raiders (0-5-1) were playing without starting quarterback Akil Dan-Fadio, who was sitting out after getting in a fight in the team’s previous game against Newton. Miles Gooch filled in for Dan-Fadio, who will return this week. Gooch was outstanding when he was inserted into the lineup against the Rams. He ran for a touchdown and threw for a score to help Redan send the game into overtime. The Raiders came up short, however, falling 42-6. The Raiders hit the road this Friday for an 8:15 p.m. date with Douglass. … The girls cross country team came in second in its Week 6 DeKalb County cross country race. Soyong Smith was the top Lady Raider, coming in seventh place. Kennisha Holden, Ashley Averette, Decoshia Boswell, Christina Mondestin and Tanisha Dyess occupied spots 9-13 in the final standings. … Redan’s volleyball team moved to 22-7 on the season after losing to Forest Park and beating Towers.
