The final four teams are left in each classification at the GHSA State Fast Pitch Softball Tournament at the Columbus Softball Complex and in the state’s highest class, North Gwinnett and East Coweta will meet for a berth in the championship series Saturday.
North Gwinnett beat Milton 10-0 and East Coweta defeated Lambert 8-1 to earn berths in the semis of the winner’s bracket. Mill Creek and Cherokee are alive in the loser’s bracket and will play early Saturday for a chance to advance.
Here’s what to expect from the other classifications on championship Saturday.
Class 6A: Lassiter and River Ridge have not lost yet and will meet in the semis of the winner’s bracket. Lassiter beat Cambridge 8-3 and River Ridge defeated Sequouyah 3-1 to advance. Pope and Buford are the two remaining teams in the loser’s bracket trying to stay alive.
Class 5A: Starr’s Mill and Northside-Columbus will play in the winner’s bracket semis after Starr’s Mill beat Loganville 3-1 and Northside beat Jones County 3-1. In the loser’s bracket, Woodland-Cartersville will play Loganville in a must-win game for a chance to advance.
Class 4A: Heritage-Catoosa beat Flowery Branch 9-8 and Central-Carroll defeated Madison County 5-3 to advance to the winner’s bracket semis. In the loser’s bracket, North Oconee and West Laurens are left after North Oconee beat Madison County 12-7 and West Laurens bested Flowery Branch 3-1.
Class 3A: Sonoraville beat Appling County 1-0 and Harlem defeated Dawson County 8-0 to advance each to the winner’s bracket semis. In the loser’s bracket, Appling County will face Southeast Bulloch in a must-win game for a chance to advance.
Class 2A: Heard County beat Jeff Davis 11-0 and Dade County beat Bremen 10-6 and each advanced to the winner’s bracket semifinals. In the loser’s bracket, Bremen and Vidalia are alive after Bremen beat Lovett 12-0 and Vidalia bested Jeff Davis 2-1.
Class A Public: Emanuel County beat Social Circle 2-1 and Academy for Classical Education defeated Lanier County 3-0 to make it to the semifinals of the winner’s bracket. In the loser’s bracket, Gordon Lee beat Lanier County 2-0 to advance to the third round against Social Circle, which beat Crawford County 20-6 in the second round.
Class A Private: George Walton and Wesleyan are still unbeaten and will play in the winner’s bracket semifinals after George Walton beat Mt. Vernon 2-1 and Wesleyan defeated Tattnall Square 3-0. In the loser’s bracket, Tattnall Square and ELCA are still alive. Tattnall beat Mt. Paran 9-4 and ELCA beat Mt. Vernon 7-6 in the second round.
