The Georgia Elite Classic was first introduced in December of 2013 and has provided a stage for many of the state’s top prospects in each year since. While operating as an annual all-star showcase, the Classic has expanded over the years and will broadcast the 12th edition this December.
The Class of 2015 was represented in the Junior Game of the Inaugural Georgia Elite Classic in 2013 and therefore is the earliest graduating class to come through the event. The Class of 2016 was represented in the 2014 Classic’s Junior Game the following year and the Class of 2017, Class of 2018 and Class of 2019 came through with the more recent Class of 2020-22. We looked back through each of the Georgia Elite Classic rosters of the classes that graduated (2015-2024) and 1,554 individuals that have gone on to play at the next level are listed below. This staggering number also includes current NFL players Darius Slayton and Chuma Edoga, who were featured in the first-ever Classic as well as John Fitzpatrick and Jake Camarda, who were taken in recent NFL Drafts.
Along with the current NFL players that were a part of our first-ever Georgia Elite Classic, there are plenty more that have participated in the event over the years that have gone on to make a name for themselves. Names such as former Roswell Hornet and member of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Xavier McKinney is a prime example of a GEC-alum continuing to stand-out at the next level. As a 4-star recruit out of Roswell, McKinney brought in almost every offer imaginable before committing to Alabama in 2017. McKinney (Class of 2017) was a part of the 2015 Georgia Elite Classic and continued to make waves in Tuscaloosa where he totaled 176 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss and five interceptions, returning two of them for touchdowns. McKinney played himself into becoming a second round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, where the New York Giants selected him with the 36th overall pick in the draft. After spending four seasons in the Meadowlands, McKinney left the Giants this past offseason and signed a four-year, $67 million contract with the Green Bay Packers where he is currently tied for the most interceptions in the NFL this season with seven.
Along with McKinney, former Marietta Blue Devil and Georgia Bulldog stand-out, Azeez Ojulari is another fine example of a former Georgia Elite Classic player continuing to do what he does best at the next level. Ojulari was rated as a 4-star out of Marietta High School and was a top-100 player in the country according to 247Sports.com. Ojulari is a member of the Georgia Elite Classic Class of 2018, where after he went on to play for the Georgia Bulldogs where he continued to turn heads. Ojulari played in Athens from 2018-2020 where he saw action in 27 games, compiling 71 total tackles, 20 tackles for loss and 14 sacks during his time with the Bulldogs. Ojulari played his way into being drafted 50th overall by the New York Giants in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft and has played on the team for the last four seasons. 2024 Fourth Rounder Javon Baker (New England Patriots) is another recent alumni that has reached the NFL in addition to 2023 First Rounder Jahmyr Gibbs (Detroit Lions)
While there have been many great alumni from the Georgia Elite Classic throughout its history, recent memory has shown that the new crop of Georgia Elite Classic alumni, might be some of the best talent yet.
A pair of Class of 2024 Georgia Elite Classic alum that began to show their capabilities on the college football field this season include Clemson linebacker and former Jefferson stand-out Sammy Brown and Georgia Tech quarterback, three-time state champion with Prince Avenue Christian, Aaron Philo.
During this past college football season, Brown became the seventh Clemson player in history to record double-digit tackles for loss as a true freshman and was named the 2024 ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year as well as being named as a True Freshman All-American by 247Sports, On3 and Pro Football Focus. Brown’s stats from his freshman season include 79 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, five sacks and three pass breakups, asserting himself all over the field in his first season with the Tigers as they made it all the way to the College Football Playoffs. Sammy’s younger brother Max Brown, a Class of 2027 sophomore, made the game-winning tackle in last year’s Freshman vs. Sophomore game to help the Freshman team defeat the elder sophomore squad for the first time in event history.
Philo, in his first season with Georgia Tech, worked his way up in the Yellow Jackets quarterback depth chart as he found his way onto the field due to the lingering injuries hitting the quarterback room throughout the season. The Georgia high school football all-time leading passer saw action in four games for Georgia Tech this season, totaling 565 yards and a passing touchdown and averaged 141 yards through the air per game. Philo played a vital role in the Georgia Tech offense down the stretch, and helped lead them to 3-1 record when he appeared in the game.
The current list of players that have competed in the Georgia Elite Classic continues to grow as the event gets larger and larger every year. After national signing day and this year’s Senior Game, the Class of 2025 will be added to this list. For perspective, the Class of 2025 will be represented in this year’s Senior game, but that graduating class has had athletes features in previous years when they were underclassmen–such as last year’s junior game, the sophomore roster in 2023′s GEC and so on. While there are many players that have competed in more than one classic, each year introduces new invites and participants for each class. This year, the Georgia Elite Classic lineup will highlight six different classes of prospects with the Class of 2025 (Seniors), Class of 2026 (Juniors), Class of 2027 (Sophomores), Class of 2028 (Freshmen), Class of 2029 (Eighth Grade) and Class of 2030 (Seventh Grade). Additionally, with the inaugural Georgia Elite Flag Football Classic double-header on Friday, Dec. 27 starting this season, the girls participating will be a part of the first-ever flag football alumni class.
The Georgia Elite Classic will take place from December 26-28 at McEachern High School where seven games will be played across the three day span, featuring some of the best high school football and flag football talent in the state.
Here is a full list of the over 1,500 players that have participated in the Georgia Elite Classic over its 12-year history; the Class of 2025 alum will be added to the alum list after National Signing Day on Feb. 5, 2025.
