GAME OF THE WEEK PREVIEW: Pope at East Paulding

East Paulding has a chance to clinch the Region 5-AAAA subregion title with a victory over Pope but the Raiders can accomplish so much more with a win. East Paulding currently sits No. 5 in the Score Atlanta/GPB poll though not many give the Raiders a chance against the Tuckers, Flowery Branches and Statesboros of the Georgia high school football landscape.East Paulding has given up just 29 points this season while posting four shutouts in a 7-0 start. The offense isn’t shabby either, averaging 45 points per game behind junior tailback Kamani Thomas, a member of the 24 2LOOK4 in 2012 and the Mitchell Webb to Andrej Suttles touchdown combination.

Pope meanwhile is dangerous at full strength and Holland Frost helped engineer a 27-21 rally one week ago against Sprayberry. The Greyhounds trailed 21-6 in the fourth but won when Frost scored the go-ahead score with under 20 seconds to play. Frost and Myles Everett are a dangerous combo as well and connected for three scores and 226 yards against North Paulding two weeks ago. And Everett can return the favor as well as he hit Frost for a 21-yard scoring reception against North Paulding.

Frost will be the key for Pope as he has been all season long. The Greyhounds run Frost out of the shotgun often in coach Matt Kemper’s offense, but the Raiders will be ready for that with a 3-4 defense designed to stop the run. Lorenz Suttles is a beast coming out of the Will linebacker spot. Against Kell, Suttles posted four sacks as well as a blocked field goal. John Reid’s team can also dominate on special teams as Marcus Gilbert is always a threat to break a return for a score as he did against Hiram.
