FRIDAY BLOG: Stephenson-MLK, Collins Hill-Peachtree Ridge highlight broadcast schedule

It’s another week of heavyweight battles across the state, but the Stephenson and M.L. King could be the best game of weekend. Both teams are undefeated and both are ranked in the top 10 in Class 5A. The key matchup in the game will be M.L. King’s Mack Brown going up against a stingy Jaguar defense, which is led by DT Michael Thornton. This game will be on ESPNU tonight beginning at 6 p.m., so it will be nationally televised.

Another Class 5A game to watch is Parkview traveling to South Gwinnett to take on the Comets. The Panthers are not the team they once were earlier in the decade and they pretty much need to win their last three games in order to ensure they reach playoffs. South Gwinnett, on the other hand, looks like a team on the rise with one of the best passing attacks in the state, led by QB Kent Rollins and WR Jonathan Krause.

Newnan should have one of its toughest games of the year on Friday as the Cougars take on Westlake, which, like Newnan, is undefeated in Region 4-AAAAA. Westlake has a good offense, however in six games, Newnan has given up only 28 points and 15 of those points were against LaGrange in the season opener.

In Class A, ECI will face Johnson County at Herschel Walker field, and it will be the second straight week that the Bulldogs will face an undefeated team. ECI defeated Truetlen last week 35-28, but they will face a Johnson County team that has a weapon in QB D.J. Dozier who can throw and run the football as well as any signal caller in the state.

And don’t forget to tune in to our GPB Football Fridays in Georgia game of the week tonight, as Collins Hill travels to Peachtree Ridge with Region 7-AAAAA standing on the line. Coverage starts at 7:15 p.m. at GPB.org/football/watch.
