FRIDAY BLOG: Highlighting the night’s biggest games

The Stephenson Jaguars got a big win last week against M.L. King last Friday, but now they have to face Union Grove and like Stephenson they are also undefeated. Stephenson running back Raymond Sanders looks to have another big game as he rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns in the win against M.L. King. But Union Grove’s Donavan Johnson will look to out duel Sanders as he is coming off a 121 yards performance against Luella. The winner of this game will have the No.1 spot in Region 2-AAAAA.

In Class AAAA, Region 6 has a cluster of four teams vying for the region title and they are Marist, Southwest DeKalb, Stone Mountain and Tucker. Marist will play against the Southwest DeKalb while Stone Mountain will host Tucker. The winner of the Marist-Southwest DeKalb game will have sole possession of first place while the winner of the Stone Mountain-Tucker contest will be tied for second.

St. Pius X has been rolling along their schedule with a 7-0 record. But they will have their toughest game this season when they go up against Grady and they are also 7-0 and they’re a team nobody is talking about. Both teams have great defenses so expect this game to be low scoring. Another note about this game is that it will be played on Saturday at the Georgia Dome as Gray will be one of four teams having their homecoming game at the Dome. They will be their first game on the schedule so it will kick off at 11 a.m.

And don’t forget about our game of the week which will feature two top teams in Region 6 –AAAAA in Lassiter and Walton. Lassiter is 7-0 which is first for the Trojans and Walton is 6-1 coming off a stinging loss to Centennial. Lassiter’s quarterback Hutson Mason is coming of 545 passing yards performance against Milton, but Walton’s Kyle Woestmann looks to get plenty of pressure on Mason all game long. Coverage starts at 7:15 p.m. at GPB.org/football/watch.
