Frady named Coach of the Year honors; three players recognized

After the most successful season in school history, the honors continued on Thursday for the Georgia State baseball team as SEBaseball.com announced their annual awards. Headlining the team’s honors was head coach Greg Frady who earned head coach of the year honors, while a trio of players were named to the first and second all conference teams.

Frady, who just completed his third season as head coach of the Panthers and recently signed a five-year extension, led Georgia State to its first CAA Championship and NCAA berth in May. The team finished
second in the regular season, its highest ever conference finish, and won the CAA Tournament in Wilmington, going a perfect 4-0. In just three seasons, Frady has compiled 98 wins and now stands as the second winningest-coach in school history.

Graduate Marc Mimeault earned first team honors after leading the Panthers with a .398 batting average, hitting 14 home runs and driving in 58, all three of which rank among the top ten single season best
totals in school history. Mimeault will start work on his graduate degree this fall. He was named to the Johnny Bench Watch List in both of his seasons at Georgia State.

Rising senior Ryan Moore also earned first team honors. Moore compiled a 7-2 record and 4.41 ERA, throwing two complete games, including clinched the Panthers a spot in the CAA Tournament and two weeks later earning the team a spot in the CAA Championship game.

Graduate Derek Simmons earned second team honors as a designated hitter after finishing the year with a .316 batting average, 13 home runs and 53 runs driven in. He also led the team with 60 runs scored, the third most in school history.

Four Panthers also earned consideration for the team as graduate Matt Van Horn, rising junior Aidan Francis and rising sophomores Brandon Williams and Justin Malone nearly were added to the list. Malone
excelled at the end of the season and earned a pair of freshman all-american honors.

The Panthers will return four All-CAA members and three CAA All-Tournament team members, as well as the tournament most outstanding performer when the 2010 season gets underway.
