Former Grayson soccer standout Ella Stevens signs with NJ/NY Gotham FC in NWSL

Former Grayson High School standout soccer player, Ella Stevens, has signed as a free agent to play for the NJ/NY Gotham FC for the upcoming season.

In her third year in the National Women’s Soccer League, Stevens played in 22 regular season games, only starting 16. Stevens scored four goals and had an assist on the season

Stevens, the former 24th overall pick to the Chicago Red Stars in the 2020 NWSL Draft, remained in Chicago for first three years of her career before making the move to Gotham FC as a restricted free agent.

Before her time as a professional soccer player, Stevens was all over the pitch at Grayson High School. She was an integral part to the Rams as she was named Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year in both her junior and senior season.

“Ella Stevens was a game changing player that put Grayson High School Soccer on the map,” said Grayson women’s soccer coach Rebekah McWhorter.

With Stevens as a junior, the Rams took home the State Championship after going an exceptional 19-0-3 on the season including 19 goals and 29 assists in her third year with the program.

Her senior year, Stevens took home the 2015-16 Gatorade National High School Player of the Year for her performance. Her senior season included 25 goals and 11 assists.

In her high school career, Stevens tallied 74 goals and 84 assists in four years.

“She was constantly putting her teammates in positions to succeed and she did it with flare. When she had the ball at her feet, you knew she was about to dance down the field and place the perfect ball for her teammate,” Coach McWhorter added.

Her outstanding play at Grayson allowed her continue playing soccer at Duke University where she was a Blue Devil for all four years and appeared in games as a freshman.

Stevens new contract with Gotham FC is through the 2025 season with her having an option in 2026.
