Justin Montgomery has been hired at Jones County a week after head coach Mike Chastain resigned from the program.
Montgomery comes to Gray after having served as the defensive coordinator of Carrollton’s state runner-up football team featuring star quarterback Julian Lewis. He takes over a Greyhounds program that went 10-2 last season but lost in the second round of the playoffs. Chastain led Jones County to the semifinals in 2019 and 2020 with three region titles from 2019-2021.
Jones County has been playing football since 1929 and has never played for a championship with semifinals appearances in 1961 under head coach Linton Jordan and 2019-2020 under Chastain.
Montgomery has coached at the collegiate and high school levels. Montgomery coached at John Milledge Academy to open his coaching career in 2012 and was on the coaching staff at Berry College in Rome until 2016. He’s previously coached at Howard before being hired, ironically, by Chastain on the Warner Robins staff in 2018.
He had a stint at Valdosta before joining the Carrollton staff under head coach Joey King in 2021.
