Football will travel to Pike Co. in first round of playoffs

The No. 7-ranked Wildcats clinched the Region 6-AA No. 3 seed with a thrilling 14-10 win Friday night at Blessed Trinity (7-3, 5-3). Tom Moak threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Blake Culberson with only 39 seconds remaining to give the Wildcats the lead. Westminster won despite committing four first-half turnovers. Running back Stephon Shelton scored the team’s other touchdown on a 44-yard scamper in the third quarter to cut the Titan lead to three points. Westminster (8-2, 6-2) will travel to play Pike County on Friday night in the first round of the state playoffs. … The Lady Wildcat volleyball juggernaut won the state title with a 3-1 win over rival Lovett in the final after sweeping Savannah Christian in the semifinal. Westminster was ranked No. 1 in the Class AA/A poll for the entire season and lost just two out of 42 matches. Only one of the losses came to a team from Georgia, which was Class 3A power Woodward Academy. … The boys cross country team won the Region 6-AA meet and the state title while the girls came in second in the region. At the state meet, the boys’ top finisher was Mohamed Egal (third overall) with a time of 16:45.51.
