Football Week 2 Rankings

Westlake was the only loser in Class AAAAAAA, as the Lions fell to Langston Hughes of AAAAAA in an upset. Eight of the 10 teams won, and all the wins were quality; the closest call was Norcross beating a pretty decent Collins Hill team 18-10. Grayson dispatched Hoover (Ala.), Lowndes trounced International School of Broward County (Fla.) and Colquitt County took out Vista Murrieta (Calif.) for three out-of-state wins. North Cobb comes in at No. 10 after starting with wins over Cherokee and Etowah. Only McEachern was idle.

Tucker holds fast to No. 1 after a blowout win over Lakeside-DeKalb. Harrison falls from No. 2 in Class AAAAAA but doesn’t fall far after a 12-point loss to AAAAA Rome, as the Wolves are one of the top teams in the state regardless of classification. It’s the same situation with Mays, which lost 9-0 to another very talented AAAAA team, Stockbridge. Lovejoy makes a move up to No. 5.

In Class AAAAA, Griffin jumped from No. 10 to No. 6 after a big win over Spalding and Ware County dropped out of the poll after a 31-7 loss to Glynn Academy. Bainbridge fell out with a 38-13 loss to Lee County. Starr’s Mill and Jones County replaced Bainbridge and Ware County.

In Class AAAA, Woodward Academy moved up from No. 7 to No. 5 after a dominating 31-0 win over Grady. The same 10 teams remain from last week’s poll, but Sandy Creek jumped Jefferson for No. 4.

Peach County still holds the top-spot in Class AAA after defeating Houston County 44-14 last week. UGA commitment Kearis Jackson put on a show in the second quarter with a 52-yard touchdown pass and a 62-yard punt return for a touchdown. No. 2 Greater Atlanta Christian, which defeated Peach County in the semifinal last season, handled Westminster 41-7. Defending champion and third-ranked Cedar Grove moved past Southwest DeKalb 37-7. Fourth-ranked Calhoun moved past local-rival Dalton 24-0 on the back of a 300-yard performance by quarterback Gavin Gray. No. 6 Westminster, No. 7 Liberty County and No. 9 Lovett all fell out of the rankings after losses. Previous No. 10 Dawson County moved up to fifth. Jenkins moved into the No. 8 spot, Bremen is No. 9 and Sonoraville is No. 10.

Fellowship Christian is the major mover this week, as the Paladins lost in the regular season for the first time since 2015. They stay in at No. 9, and the team that beat them at their home field, Mt. Paran, moves up to No. 4. Eagle’s Landing Christian took out its second-straight public-school program in a higher classification, this time dispatching Class AAAAAA Jonesboro in a rout.

Top-ranked Benedictine rested last week and will face St. Pius X on Friday.  Hapeville Charter, previously No. 2, fell to Thompson, Ala. 21-20 and slid to No. 3, leaving room for Fitzgerald to move up to the No. 2 team. No. 4 Screven County was off last week and faced Wade Hampton, S.C. on Friday. No. 5 Callaway had a bye-week and will face Handley, Ala. on Thursday. Previously No. 7, Pepperell fell out of the rankings, making way for Dodge County at No. 8. Previous No. 10 Jefferson County moved up to No. 9 as Brooks County fell to tenth.
