Football team gives Milton scare, but falls out of postseason contention

After suffering a rough start at the beginning of the year, the football team has found its groove as the season is winding down. The Greyhounds defeated Alpharetta 23-7 to win their fourth game of the year and to put them at .500 for the first time this season. Parker Frost and Marcorus Garrett scored touchdowns to help the ‘Hounds stay in the playoff race. On Friday, Pope lost to Milton in a close battle, 26-21. With the loss, the Greyhounds fell out of the playoff picture but they will look to go 5-5 for the season when they take on Walton to close out the 2008 campaign on Friday. … In the state semifinals, the volleyball team defeated county rival Kell in four games. Mary Hoey led the Lady Greyhounds with 12 kills and Sarah Morris added 10 kills and 5.5 blocks. On Saturday, Pope faced Northview in the state finals and lost to the defending state champs in four games. The loss was only the fourth of the year for the team and its first since early September.
