Football, Softball and Volleyball scores from Thursday

Buford’s Ansleigh Hollifield struck out a career-high 14 batters during her fourth complete game of the season as the Class AAAAA No. 5 Wolves beat No. 2 Walnut Grove 6-4 on Thursday. Hollifield allowed seven hits and four earned runs all without a walk. Sophomore Shamya Young was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Junior Abbi Perkins was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Senior Anabel Adams was 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run and one stolen base. Freshman Olivia Duncan was 1-for-3 with two runs. The Wolves improved to 15-9 and 5-1 in 8-AAAAA and will face Loganville on Tuesday.

In Class AAAAAAA, No. 2 North Gwinnett improved to 23-1 on the season and 13-0 in 6-AAAAAAA with a 6-2 victory over Mill Creek on the softball field. Senior Morgan Frye led with a 2-run home run. Sophomore Simone Leonard had three hits and freshman Amber Reed got her 16th win of the season after the complete-game victory.

In a meeting of middle Georgia teams, Class AAAAAA No. 1 Houston County beat crosstown-rival Warner Robins 15-0 in three innings. The Bears scored six runs in the first inning, seven in the second and two in the top of the third to put the game away. Five players had an RBI in the victory, led by junior Bobbi Poff who was 3-for-3 with five RBIs. Junior Averi Martin was 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Senior Lauren Moss was 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Junior Makayla Krepps was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Junior Olivia Brown was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

In Class AAA, Pace Academy beat Cedar Grove 19-2 in a 5-AAA game and a 12-run top of the third inning helped end it in four innings. Six players had an RBI for Pace led by freshman Emma Neville and juniors Sydney Silverstein and Lane Brickley, each with two RBIs. Junior Helena Harris, freshman Cele Camp and senior Molly Buffenbarger each had one RBI. Freshman Sophia Mador pitched all four innings, allowed one hit, faced 17 batters and struck out six of them.

On the volleyball court, Class A/AA No. 7 Holy Innocents’ beat Mt. Pisgah 2-0. The Golden Bears moved to 23-6 on the season. Holy Innocents’ won the first set 25-9 and the second set 25-11. In Class AAA, No. 5 Jefferson beat Hart County 2-0 and moved to 28-4 on the season and 11-1 in Area 8. The Dragons won the first set 25-15 and the second set 25-17.  In Class AA/A-Private, No. 4 Mount Paran Christian beat Coosa 2-1. Coosa won the first set 25-14. Paran responded with a 25-19 victory in the second set and a 15-10 victory in the decisive third set.

Athens Academy got victories over Lakeview Academy and Tallulah Falls, both 2-0, on the evening. The Spartans beat Tallulah Falls set victories of 25-22 and 25-15. Junior Ali Rumpel led with eight kills, five digs and 13 attack attempts. Sophomore Peyton Wheeler had seven kills, five digs and 12 attack attempts. Freshman Olivia Nealy had five kills, six digs and 18 attack attempts. Freshman Mary Miller had three kills, nine digs and 16 attack attempts. Senior Anna Rutledge had two kills. Against Lakeview Academy, the Spartans won with set victories of 25-15 and 25-16 led by Rumpel’s seven kills, 11 digs and 10 attack attempts. Nealy added six kills with 21 attack attempts. Miller had three kills and eight attack attempts. Mara Thomas added 11 digs.
