Football falls to two tough region foes; hoops teams gearing up for season

The football team lost to Westlake (6-3) 35-0 last Friday and to Newnan (9-0) by the same score on Oct. 24. In rainy and wet conditions last Friday, Pebblebrook (2-7) fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter and never really threatened to make a game of it. The Falcons came close to scoring in the fourth after a fake punt set them up on the Cougar 14. The offense, however, could not convert, as Pebblebrook missed a field goal. Newnan leads Class 5A in scoring defense, allowing just 3.5 points per game. The Falcons host Mundy’s Mill (0-9) on Friday night in the regular-season finale. … The boys cross country squad ran at the Region 4-AAAA meet on Saturday. Gary Faniel led the Falcons by finishing 29th overall, while Brian Birdsong came in 41st place. … The boys basketball team is preparing for the upcoming season, which will begin on Nov. 21 against Banneker in the John Morgan Thanksgiving Tournament. Pebblebrook is hosting the tourney. The Falcons are coming off a 27-3 season in which they were ranked No. 9 in the final poll.
