Football falls short in region contest despite sharp passing of Cromwell

The football team lost a crucial Region 5-AAA matchup last week to Columbia, 28-13. The Red Devils trailed just 21-13 in the fourth quarter before the defense gave up a 68-yard drive to seal the game. Jay Cromwell continued to assert himself as one of the better quarterbacks in the region. He threw for 247 yards and a touchdown on 22-of-33 passing. Marcel Baugh caught the touchdown, a 36-yarder, and finished with six catches for 138 yards. Druid Hills also lost 57-7 to Cedar Grove back on Oct. 3, lowering its record to 3-3. The Red Devils host winless Towers on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before heading into their bye week. … The cross country team will run in the Bleckley Invitational on Saturday, before racing on Oct. 25 at the Last Chance Invitational in Carrollton. … The softball team closed out the season with a 15-0 loss to Miller Grove in three innings. The team also went down to defeat in a 17-6 loss to North Atlanta in five innings on Oct. 7.
