The football team lost a 19-18 heartbreaker to Lovett on Oct. 24, putting the Spartans’ playoff aspirations in jeopardy. Colton Chapple scored on a quarterback sneak with a little under six minutes remaining, but the Spartans failed on a two-point conversion that would have given them a 20-13 lead. The team could not hold on as the Lions drove 74 yards for the win. The loss gave GAC a 3-2 record in Region 6-AA and put them, at the time, out of the playoff picture. That was before the Spartans rolled over Cross Keys 62-0 and put themselves in a four-way tie for second place behind Buford in the region. GAC (4-5, 4-2) had two interception returns in the first quarter to set the tone for the evening. Head coach Ken Robinson was able to play mostly second- and third-stringers for the final two quarters. Of the four teams vying for the last three spots in Region 6-AA, the Spartans have the most difficult game remaining, having to face Buford on the road at Tom Riden Stadium this Friday.
