First victory is first step to repeat playoff appearance for Raiders

The football team lost last Friday 43-6 to McNair. Head coach Ronnie Fleetwood and the Raiders were looking for their first win of the season after tying Miller Grove 12-12 in the season opener. The young Redan (0-1-1) offense could not keep up with the Mustangs’ scoring and the defense could not contain McNair’s offense. Redan is coming off of a 6-5 season that included a trip to the playoffs. Heading into the game, they had a seven-game winning streak against McNair (1-1), including a 30-13 victory in 2007. Redan will next play Cedar Grove at Hallford Stadium on Saturday. … The volleyball team returned to the court last weekend, looking to pick up some more big wins. They got one such win when they defeated Northside-Warner Robins 2-1. Head coach Cassandra Morris’s team will next play on Thursday against Stephenson and M.L. King at M.L. King. … Despite it being the Raiders’ second football game of the season, there was much anticipation for the McNair contest, as it was Redan’s Homecoming Game. A parade and pep rally took place the Thursday before the game.
