All six top-ranked teams reached their respective state championship games over the weekend and five of the six emerged victorious to capture titles and remain atop their classifications.
The only exception came in Class A, where previously ninth-ranked Pace Academy’s Cinderella story lasted to midnight and beyond. Pace’s five-match trek through the bracket included upsets of Holy Innocents’ and First Presbyterian Day, the latter by a 3-2 decision in the championship.
The favorites who prevailed in Class AA-Class AAAAAA were Greater Atlanta Christian, St. Pius X, Marist, McIntosh and Harrison. Aside from the champions and finalists, East Coweta made the biggest move with a run to the Class AAAAAA semifinals. An impressive showing in a 4-3 loss to eventual runner-up Grayson also helped East Coweta finish No. 4 in the rankings.
