Class 7A state champion McEachern defeated Norcross 75-68 to win their fourth title in a row and fifth since 2012. The Indians became the first team to win four straight titles in the state’s highest classification and finish the year at No. 1. Runner-up Norcross takes the No. 2 spot. Semifinalists Archer and Collins Hill round out the top 4, while quarterfinalist Lambert finishes the year at No. 5. No. 6 Mill Creek and No. 7 Brookwood give Gwinnett County five teams in the top 7.
Mays finishes at the top spot of Class 6A after defeating Harrison by one point (52-51) in the title game. Runner-up Harrison finishes in the second spot. No. 3 Northview, which fell to Harrison in the semifinals edges No. 4 Lovejoy, which fell to Mays in the semifinal game after losing a 16-point second half lead.
The Lady Wolves of Buford defeated Southwest DeKalb 60-42 to take home the Class 5A state title close the season No. 1. Since 2009, Buford has won five state titles, one in Class AAAA and three in a row, 2009-12, in Class AA. Griffin, who fell to Buford in the semifinals, takes the No. 3 spot. Flowery Branch is ranked fourth after losing to Southwest DeKalb in the semifinals.
Just one point separated the two teams from Columbus vying for the Class 4A state title. In the end, Columbus bested Carver-Columbus 68-67 to take home the trophy and the top spot. It marked Columbus’ first title. Carver is No. 2 and West Hall, a team that Columbus beat in the second round, takes the third spot.
In a battle of Savannah schools, Beach came out on top. The Lady Bulldogs, who had just one state title in their trophy case (2000), handled Johnson-Savannah 59-44 to take the top spot. Johnson takes the No. 2 spot with Greater Atlanta Christian as No. 3. Peach County come in at the fourth spot in Class 3A.
In Class 2A, Laney took home the title and the No. 1 spot after defeating Rabun County 85-76. It was the second title in program history for Laney, the first came in 2015 with a 70-55 win over Beach. Rabun County is in the second spot and Model took third.
Wesleyan edged Holy Innocents’ 51-48 to take the Class A-Private title. For the Lady Wolves, it marked the 12th state title since 2002. During that stretch, Wesleyan won five in a row, from 2009-13. Holy Innocents’ takes the No. 2 spot.
Pelham reigns supreme in Class A-Public after beating Telfair County 60-42 in the title game. For Pelham, it is the second title in program history after winning the 1997 Class A title game. Telfair is No. 2 as runner-up and Wheeler County, which lost to Pelham in the semis, takes third.
