The fifth annual Chamber Bowl Senior All-Star Game presented by the North Fulton-Forsyth Touchdown Club takes place Saturday, Dec. 21 at Riverwood High School. The series is tied at two between the North and South squads after the North’s 30-22 win last year at Lambert.

The inaugural game was hosted by Alpharetta High School in north Fulton County and has rotated between Forsyth and north Fulton schools since. The goal of the event is North Fulton-Forsyth Touchdown Club Executive Director and Founder Eric Douglas’ idea of providing high school student-athletes with the opportunity to play an organized football game a final time as prep stars while also showcasing their individual talents for college recruiters.

Players go through a schedule similar to that of a college bowl game, with a game-week media session, player workout session and an awards banquet.

Last year’s game at Lambert saw the North even the all-time series at two and the North was coached by Lambert head man Sid Maxwell. Mike Randle, of the North Georgia Falcons, was named offensive MVP award, while Denny Victor of Johns Creek won the defensive MVP award.

Randle scored both a rushing and receiving touchdown. Johns Creek quarterback Skye Overton hit Randle on a 34-yard pass to essentially clinch the victory at 30-7 in the third quarter. Randle gave the North its first lead of the game after lining up behind center in the shotgun formation and scoring. The score at that point was 10-7.

Northview running back Terrence Upshaw extended the North lead to 17-7 with a 19-yard touchdown run. South Forsyth quarterback Jantzen Jeffrey then ran 14 yards for another North team score. At the half, the North squad led decisively at 24-7.

The South team scored twice in the second half to make things interesting, and quarterback Chase Rosenberg actually completed a pass on the last play of the game that would have given the South a chance to tie, but the receiver fell just short of the goal line.

The 2011 game was not quite as competitive as the next year’s clash, as the South team won easily 49-0 at Johns Creek. Three South quarterbacks tossed touchdown passes and, as a group, was 12-of-18 through the air for 212 yards. Jimmy Meyer of Centennial was six of nine for 133 yards and a touchdown pass to Chris Dore. Meyer, now at Harvard University, also rushed for a touchdown. Dore, who played for Blessed Trinity, led all receivers with six catches for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Andy Nichols of Holy Innocents’ had a 35-yard pick-six in the third quarter.

The North won the inaugural game 29-7.

The mission of the game is as follows: “Recognize and promote the game of football, its coached, players and supporters for their accomplishments on and off the field of competition. And to encourage the continued development, growth and enhancement of the sport in the North Fulton/Forsyth area.”
