Beginning Saturday, January 31, soccer fans will have the chance to cast their vote for the name of Atlanta’s new Women’s Professional Soccer franchise at www.atlantawomensprosoccer.com. Fitz Johnson, team owner, expressed his desire to allow fans the opportunity to be involved in deciding the name of the team, which will begin play in 2010.
“Soccer has an active and supportive fan base throughout Georgia and the Southeast and we believe it is important for everyone to be involved in naming our team,” said Johnson. “Our goal remains to engage the community in real and meaningful ways as we prepare to bring a Women’s Professional Soccer team to Atlanta and this is a great way to start generating excitement and getting the word out.”
Players and parents registered with the Georgia State Soccer Association, the official governing body for soccer in the state of Georgia, will also be able to access the survey at www.georgiasoccer.org
Participating fans will have the opportunity to recommend their favorite from seven team names:
1. Attack
2. Beat
3. Blaze
4. Fury
5. Rush
6. Stingrays
7. Storm
There will also be an opportunity for fans to submit their own name suggestion. On March 29, the three most popular names will be put to a final vote.
The final team name will be announced April 25, 2009, as well as the winner of a VIP Opening Night prize package, randomly selected from all voters.
By registering their opinion at www.atlantawomensprosoccer.com, fans have the opportunity to win a special VIP opening night package, which includes a meet-and-greet with players during training camp, two tickets to Opening Night and an autographed team ball.
