Falcons vs. Broncos: Halftime blog

Behind the arm of rookie quarterback Matt Ryan, the Atlanta Falcons lead the Denver Broncos at halftime at the Georgia Dome. Ryan has already thrown for 145 yards in the first half, as the Falcons lead 13-7 at the break over the visitors.

The Falcons got off to a rare slow start at home, as the Broncos drove down the field on their first possession and Peyton Hills capped off the drive with a 7-yard touchdown run to open up the scoring.

Atlanta regained control afterwards, scoring on their next three drives. Jason Elam connected on field goals of 36 and 46 yards, and a 37-yard pass from Ryan to Roddy White set up a 9-yard touchdown scamper from Michael Turner to give Atlanta a 13-7 lead.

Despite not scoring after their opening drives, the Broncos have been able to move the ball through the air. But the Falcons defense twice held strong on third downs of 2 yards or less, and also benefited from a missed field goal by former Falcon Matt Prater, whose kick from 49 yards sailed wide right.
