Falcons pick up first victory; boys XC turns in top-10 finish at County Championships

The football team got its first win and put up the highest point total for the team since 2005 last Friday, defeating Central Gwinnett 47-24. Quarterback Hunter Watts was 8-of-10 for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Aashad Holloway rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns. The Falcons are off this Friday and play South Gwinnett on Oct. 3. … The softball team lost to Sandy Creek 5-3 last Wednesday, but defeated Peachtree Ridge on Thursday 11-1 in the Brookwood Invitational. Kelsea Martin was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs. On Saturday, the Falcons won their division in the Invitational by defeating Northside-Warner Robins, South Forsyth and Northgate. The Falcons pitching staff dominated, giving up zero runs in the three games. Alex Payne pitched the first and third game, while Alli Miles shut out South Forsyth in the middle game. … The volleyball team defeated Oconee County last Thursday. Sarah Beth White led the team with 14 kills. The Lady Falcons play Buford, Brookwood and Duluth this Thursday. … The boys cross country team finished 10th at the Gwinnett County Championship meet. Mike McClay led with a time of 16:21. The girls cross country team finished 11th in the Gwinnett County Championship last Saturday. Nina Kamber had the team’s best time at 22:40.
