On Wednesday, the Falcons wrapped up their final seven-on-seven players only workout. Since May 10, a group usually around 20 players have met twice a week to participate in player led workouts. Quarterback Matt Ryan, linebacker Curtis Lofton and team representative Coy Wire have led the charge over the past few months in persuading teammates to participate.
THE J-DUB SHOW …
During the workouts, players have seen the ability of Julio Jones on the field. They see his remarkable ability to make plays and have given him the chance to mesh with his teammates.
“I think he’s done a great job,” Matt Ryan told the AJC. “He’s probably been one of our most consistent guys out here for the last two months. I think for him it was extra important to do this.”
Roddy White has also given praise to the first round draft choice. He believes that the best is yet to come; the Falcons’ receiving unit will exponentially improve from last season.
White explains this by stating, “It’s going to be special. It’s going to remind you of the Greatest Show on Turf,” referring to Tory Holt and Isaac Bruce, who led St. Louis to the Super Bowl XXXIV championship.
The conclusion of the workouts means the Falcons will not meet until start of training camp, which is scheduled to begin on July 29. If no CBA agreement occurs prior to that date, the lockout remains in effect, and training camp may cease to exist.
Roddy White received the honor of joining the ranks of John Abraham (No. 69), Matt Ryan (No. 52), Tony Gonzalez (No. 46), and Michael Turner (No. 42) in the NFL Network’s Top 100 Players of 2011 list. His peers voted him the 24th-best player in the NFL last season. Votes cast by NFL players help generate the Network’s list.
OWENS EXONERATED …
The Superior Court of Gwinnett County has dropped the case against Falcons cornerback Christopher Owens. Latia Terry, 22, accused Owens of burglarizing her apartment back on June 12. The report of the incident seemed obscure of Owens who received the Atlanta Falcons Man of the Year in 2010 for his work in the community and was nominated for NFL’s Walter Payton Award.
