Malik Mackey is a star offensive lineman for Mays. Mays is 5-2 this year and following a season-opening loss to Carver-Atlanta, Mays won four straight and outscored its opponents 148-58.
Malik and his teammates on the line have helped give their quarterbacks and running backs room to work with. Mays quarterbacks have had four games with a QB rating higher than 95 and the running backs have totaled 1,013 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns.
Schools have started to notice Malik’s talent, as Kentucky, Georgia and Syracuse have already begun to contact him for recruiting. So far he’s been to Alabama and UGA camps and plans to go to more. The reigning two-time FBS National Champions really impressed Malik on his trip to Alabama’s camp.
“I really liked Alabama’s coaching staff,” Malik said. “I really learned a lot at their camp.”
Malik has aspirations of playing for a competitive football team in college, but he also has plans for his career after his football days are over. “I want to work in the computer field. I plan on majoring in computer science in school,” Malik says. His 3.0 GPA shows the work ethic that Malik has for school work and he will be in a good position to accomplish any academic goals in front of him.
Malik is also a part of Mays’ track and field team. Like many high school athletes, one sport just is not enough for Malik. He’s constantly around competitive sports, so once football is over he is competing in the shot-put for Mays.
He is also an active member of his community, giving back to try and help the people who help him. He is active with his church and does what he can to help out. He cleans around his church whenever he gets the chance and also helps to keep the playground neat and clean.
Malik has helped Mays have a great first half to the season. His playing ability combined with his academic achievements make Malik a great addition to any college. The recruitment process will surely pick up over the course of this season, and he is certainly going to bring plenty of attention while helping Mays win.
