ELITE JUNIOR: Chris Calhoun

Vincent Calhoun

Chris Calhoun is a stand-out defensive player for Centennial. He is versatile in the front seven on defense, with the ability to play inside linebacker, outside linebacker, or put his hand down and play defensive end. The best way to describe him is as a physically gifted defender. Chris is 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, and he still manages to run a 4.7 in the 40 and a 4.3 shuttle. His size, agility, speed, and knowledge of the game have helped him letter each of his first three years at Centennial.

Colleges have already begun to take notice, as he has been contacted by 13 D-I institutions including UGA, Auburn, Louisville, Clemson, West Virginia and Georgia Tech. Another thing going for Chris is his diligence in the classroom. He has a 3.5 GPA thus far into his high school career, so he will thrive at any academic institution.

A lot of student athletes at the high school level play more than one sport in their four years in school. Chris has excelled at more than one sport like few others though. In addition to his success on the football field he has also seen success on the basketball court. He lettered as a sophomore on the varsity team at Centennial. Chris also plays for a nationally-ranked AAU team, the “Georgia Press”. His AAU team has won multiple championships and three state tournaments.

Chris understands the importance of working hard at bettering himself and bettering his team. What people might not see is that Chris also works hard to help his community. He has helped with the Feed Atlanta program on a frequent basis over the past couple of years.

“We reached out to them and went down and helped them on Saturday’s”, Chris’ father Vincent explained. “We take part in this program through his AAU team and Fellowship of Faith over in East Point Atlanta.”

Chris has some qualities that you just can’t teach. You can’t teach size and you can’t teach speed. Chris has both of them. On top of that he understands the importance of helping out in the community. Combine all of that with his work ethic and dedication to the game, and you have a player that any school would be lucky to have.
