Cal King, the starting quarterback for Mary Persons, is taking advantage of every opportunity given to him. He played at Thomasville High School for two years before moving to Mary Persons for his father’s job. He was a letterman at Thomasville the two years he was there. He is a dual athlete playing baseball and football. He has adjusted from the spread option offense at Thomasville to the inside/outside offense at Mary Persons. Cal has never been concerned with statistics and his goal has always been to win as a team.
“I really could not begin to tell you the stats. I never saw and really did not worry too much about them,” Cal explained.
Recruiting has been going well so far for Cal who has seen interest from many different schools. He kept himself busy this summer by going to 13 different college football camps. There is interest in Cal from multiple levels and he is still figuring out which school will be the best fit for him.
“I am trying to get some ideas about where or what level I will be playing. I think this will all come more into light as this season continues.”
In addition to his athletic abilities, Cal possesses great academic drive. He is a member of the National Honors Society and the Beta Club, he is an honor roll student, and he has a 3.6 GPA. Cal also keeps himself busy with clubs by staying active in FFA and FCA for his two years at Thomasville High School.
When he isn’t working on his academics or athletic ability, Cal enjoys going to the lake and participating in water sports with his friends. He also is an active member of his church, the First Baptist Church. For the past few years he has been working with the younger kids at sports camps in Thomasville; Bullpups, their football program and also their baseball program. He also is trying to go on a mission trip to Haiti with his church.
Cal plans on attending and graduating college, and he plans on staying involved with football after graduation.
“I have dreams and know the dreams will include some football, in some capacity,” Cal says.
He is still unsure of what his major will be in college, but with his work ethic he should do fine with whatever path he chooses.
Cal is a special person and athlete. No matter what he chooses he will do great. Press on with the little things and bigs things will come.
