Eagles lose to Marietta but defeat Cherokee by two scores

The football team suffered a hard loss to Marietta on Oct. 10, falling 28-3 to the Eagles. The loss contributed to the team’s four-game losing streak, which was snapped last Friday when the Eagles handed a winless Cherokee squad its seventh loss on the year. In the 29-15 winning effort, the Eagles received tremendous play from senior quarterback Chris Awuah, who went 6-of-10 passing for 190 yards and a touchdown to go along with 14 carries for 183 yards and two scores on the ground. On the Warriors’ side of things, Matt Blaylock led the scoring effort, reaching the end zone twice on runs from 1 and 2 yards out. With the help of Blaylock, Cherokee did make a genuine attempt at coming back, but an Eagles defensive stand late in the fourth quarter from their own 1-yard line sealed the win for South Cobb. This Friday the team faces the one-loss Etowah Eagles, who have taken the last two meetings by close margins. … The volleyball team’s season came to a close last week in disappointing fashion, as the girls dropped three more matches, falling to East Paulding, Kennesaw Mountain and North Cobb in that order.
